Problem

ENVIRAL manages a large CAPEX portfolio across the group. Individual investment projects can run for several years, and their budgets, timing and expected benefits have a major impact on the company’s future economics and profitability. Management therefore needed to continuously monitor planned investments, project status, responsibilities and their link to the group’s strategic goals.

Although the company already had a reporting environment in place, CAPEX planning still required connecting change requests, financial data and project master data from multiple systems. Without a unified workflow, it was difficult to collect and validate requests centrally, consolidate budgets and create a reliable framework for management decisions on investments.

Solution

EMARK helped ENVIRAL / Envien Group create a unified environment for CAPEX planning, connecting change requests, financial data and project master data into one governed planning and analytics process.

CAPEX requests and budgets are collected centrally, validated through workflow and planned down to the level of analytical accounts. Management and controlling gained a transparent view of project status, approved budgets, responsibilities, investment timing and the overall CAPEX portfolio.

Before

CAPEX projects lacked a unified planning workflow
Project, request and financial data were split across multiple systems
Controlling could not manage investment timing in one place
Requests and budgets lacked clear validation and consolidation
Management lacked one view of CAPEX and strategic priorities

After

CAPEX planning runs in one governed process
Project, financial and request data are consolidated
CAPEX requests are collected centrally through forms
Planning reaches the analytical account level
Management and controlling share one CAPEX decision framework

What we delivered

Linking CAPEX projects to the group’s strategic goals
Centralized collection of CAPEX requests through forms
Fiscal snapshots of plans to track development over time
Unification of CAPEX account code lists and planning rules
Overview of approved budgets, project statuses and responsibilities
Detailed financial planning down to the level of analytical accounts

Our starting point was the complexity of processes and the need to move away from the Excel world. In project planning, we managed to create a foundation that we see as a model for the future integration of planning across the group.
